Hello, I was wondering if this set comes with a mattress? Or would I have to buy a mattress seperately?
Please be advised that the Worldwide HF Volt Queen Bed - White as shown on this page does not come with a mattress and must be purchased separately.

I just bought a new box spring and mattress. Can the legs be unscrewed and removed, and the base set on the floor, so the box spring can be used without making the sleep surface of the bed too high? Or with a 5.5" clearance under the bed, would the sleep surface be too high with the legs left on if both box spring and mattress are used. What is the depth of the frame; from the picture, it looks to be a bit deeper than the 5.5" clearance underneath, but it's hard to tell.
No, the legs should not be removed as the slat support system on the Worldwide HF Volt Queen Bed also supports the bed frame so the bed would not be stable without the support system.
Thanks for shopping Sears and have a great day !

You say the bed supports 300 pounds.
But if two people each weighing 150 pounds sleep in the bed that is 300 pounds. It leaves no weight for the mattress!
Is it possible that there was a glitch in the answer? I thought it might support about 500 lbs. like the Thomas platform bed which also uses slats?
Please be advised the recommended weight limit (of the occupants) for the Worldwide HF Volt Queen Bed - White is approximately 350 lbs.
