Rated 5 out of 5 by from BASS TAPED BLINDS...IT'S THE REAL THING!!! My spouse and I settled on Basswood Taped Blinds to compliment our new living room, complete with new hardwood floor. I wanted a color & style to look appealing; to blend in with the floor; and something we could admire for years to come. I did my due diligence on wood blinds, and I'll admit, that it is hard ordering online, because at the back of your mind, you wonder, will the blinds fit? Did I do the right thing? Did I order the correct size and so on. The blinds came boxed; not heavy for a woman; and I managed carrying two boxes myself. Installation was a breeze; a small ladder, drill and screw driver is all my spouse required. After installation I stopped dead in my tracks. Was I really in my house? I thought. The look of the blinds completely stunned me and I can not believe how authentic they are. The basswood taped blinds have given my living room a whole new look. I love them. My spouse loves them. My children love them. The mahogony color is bang on. It just about matches our stained oak floor. I have never experienced the look of TOTAL DARKNESS before and these blinds take every bit of light out completely. Had I known this product existed before, then I would have bought the company. I purchased five blinds in total; and our living room windows are large. The price was very good because we waited until they were on sale. In comparison, I looked at two other stores, and in one case, I brought a sample of faux wood blinds home and it looked and felt cheap. Even if I tried to dress up the faux wood with side curtains or panels, let me assure you, it would not have helped. At the second store, I chose modern panels in two rich brown tones and it looked rather blah. I just knew in my heart it wasn't the look we wanted. Previous to our purchase we had faded white metal levilor blinds. The basswood taped blinds are exceptional. The tapes are similar to cord and about one inch wide. No wand needed here, just use the professional looking wood toggles to open and close & raise and lower. I am totally impressed with this product; it's the real thing. Wood. Don't waste your money on faux wood or state that you will buy real wood in a couple of years. Don't do it. Instead wait, like I did, for a sale, because it made a huge difference and I waited only two weeks for a sale. In comparison to other store products, particularly wood blinds or faux wood blinds the prices were very high, around 650 to 800 dollars. That's a large amount for most of us just to dress up windows; yet with the sale at Sears, I saved close to $425. There was no odour upon installation; and as a side note, the blinds came a little bit longer than requested, by five slats. We did not remove the extras, instead we found the additional five slats gave the last slat a better finished look. Follow the guidelines for taking measurements; it's easier than you think and double check for accuracy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought these blinds for our picture window in our living room. I love the fauxwood look as it is very rich looking but the only downfall of that is they are heavy. They are easy to install and to operate. They have definately been a good purchase and I would recommend them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful - if only they fit. Sized the blinds according to instructions on Sears website. Instructions indicated to send exact size of opening and the facility would size down accordingly. They didn't. Kudos for exact measurements, but now it is a very tight fit that the blinds can't be installed otherwise they'll bind. I now need to chase locally and pay more to have them cut down by 1/4". Sigh. So much for ease of ordering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from makes the room! blinds look great and were very easy to install the custom cut was excellent and the couple of slats that were a little wider (not a very square window) were easily hand sanded to fit better. will purchase more for other windows.

In the picture, the lighter coloured blinds look like the light is coming through. I am ordering white blinds for a bedroom (so I don't want light coming through). Will the wood let the light through?

Asked by: tosea7
Hello tosea7, Thank you for taking the time to contact Sears. The wood blind will not let the light go through. Thank you for choosing Sears. Have a great day!

Do I order the exact size as the width of my window? I am doing an inside mount.

My window width is 43 and 7/8". If I order this width will it fit inside my window, or will it be too snug?
Asked by:
I understand the measuring system, but the blind cut to the exact size of the windows makes me think there will be no wiggle room. i.e. will the blind have to be shoved into the space? I wasn't sure if they cut the blinds based on the measurement of your window and then size down slightly.

Width of the mount

Hi could you please tell me the width of the valance that the blinds mount into so that I know whether or not I will be able to mount the blinds inside of my window frames. Thank you!
Asked by:
Hello, For an inside mount, the casing must be at least 1½ inches deep to install the head rail. Please view the following link for general guidelines on how to measure for custom cut blinds. http://www.sears.ca/content/resource-centre/buying-guides/home-decor/window-measuring Thanks for shopping Sears and have a great day !

Replacement valance

Is it possible to order a replacement valance for this product 60" wide? I have a 60" wide window and think the 60" blind will be too heavy so plan to order two 30" blinds. However I would like to have a 60" valance instead of two 30" valances to complete the look for the window. Thanks for your help

Looking to repair blind cord with matching colour

Purchased these blinds a few years ago and one of the cords broke. Where can I get blind repaired with a matching cord?I have already tried a few blind repair places and they cannot match your cord colour which matches the tape colour. Any service company in the Ottawa area doing your blind service? Thanks.
Asked by: denlyne
I would go online and search for fabric and arts 'n craft stores (Fabricland, Michael's), as they carry an abundance of accessories including cord. Or, I would specifically type in "cord" or "toggle cord". With the cord being widely used you should not have a problem getting a replacement. Now with respect to having the blinds repaired; I would insist on Sears performing this work even if it costs a nominal fee, because: it is good customer service; the customer is always right; the cord is thin and in hindesight I can tell that it does not appear to be durable enough to carry the weight of the slats. I am going to have to tell my spouse and children about this problem and to be careful when lifting the blinds. I hope that in the long run I don't have the same experience as you. Good luck.

Can I see samples in person

I'd like to actually see and touch some of the blinds that are only available for on-line purchase. How can I do this?
Asked by: willphoneinstead
I had the same problem, so I ordered a few different styles and when they came in I kept the ones that were suitable and returned the others for full credit.

Outside mount?

Can these be mounted outside the window frame?
Asked by: Gazee
Yes they can be mounted outside or inside. I suggest for an outside mount that you make sure the blind is measured carefully. If you are mounting the brackets above the window frame make sure the width will cover the whole frame or it might not look right. If you are mounting the bracket on the outside of the frame (on the wall) make sure you allow for the width of each bracket in your measurement. If you are placing the brackets on the actual frame (above the window or on each side) you have to adjust your measurement to allow for the brackets as well.
