These shades are great. They block the direct sun but still allow the window to give off light to the room. Love the insulating factor of the blinds. Very easy to install.

Pros:Â Easy to install

Cons:Â hardware leaves a bit of a gap at top

The "Vaughan" Cellular Fabric Shades are only available in a semi-opaque corded, semi-opaque cordless and double-cell semi-opaque cordless variety. It is not available in an opaque/black out version.

Fitting inside a 2x4 window frame vs a 2x6 window frame

I'm searching for blinds or roller shades that will fit inside the window framing. I've always has the typical horizontal 1/2" slat blind fit as the hardware is only about 1" deep/wide.

Faux wooden horizontals are too wide for the inside of the frame.

Can you recommend something? These are for the cottage on the west and south-west windows so shade is a priority.

Width of Blind when Open?

Hi, my husband would like to know how wide the thickness of the double celled shades are when they are in full open position. Is it 1&1/2 inches? Is that the width of the head rail? There are no specs for blind width open or closed in the description, but it mentions that number in the general measuring guide.

My husband is concerned that the shades will rest against the glass and cause condensation to form in winter.

Also, how many inches do they hang down from the top when in full open position.

Hello cocoa3c,

Yes, when the blind is in the closed position, the double cell fabric measures 1 1/2" (in width) & in the open position will measure between 1" to 1 1/2". Please note that the fabric will tend to open more at the top due to the overall weight of the blind. The headrail measures 1 1/2".

Once the end caps are put on the headrail & bottom rails, this will leave a small gap (estimated at 1/4", this also depends on your measurement) allowing for sufficient air flow around the shade. However, should your windows be prone to condensation you can also leave a small gap at the bottom of the blind by not pulling down too tight to the window sill. When installing you do not have to put the headrail tight to the glass thus eliminating any possibility of the fabric touching the glass. Again, if you only have room to install the headrail tight to the glass, you will see the bottom rail is approximately 1/8" wider than the fabric so the fabric will not touch the glass.

The blinds come in two lengths - 48" & 72" and will reach this length when fully open.
