Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage I'll admit, I was lured in by the rainwater colour which I knew would be perfect in our kitchen. I should not have wasted my money. I probably should have clued in when we unwrapped the million or so pieces that comprise the Sauder kitchen island and did not have the proper amount of screws. Undaunted, we headed to the hardware store to pick up the required screws and went to work - that alone is not a project for the faint of heart. This island was not fun to put together. It's tedious and time consuming....and given the fact that it is entirely composed of cheap particle board, entirely unforgiving. But we managed. Within a couple of hours it was up and looked ok (like thin particle board covered a pretty layer of 'rainwater' but if you didn't look to hard, it really did look ok). It didn't take long though before the entire island started to shift and the screws began to work their way out of the guide holes. Within a few months we were having to screw and nail it back together...and even add another caster to the bottom to keep it from sagging - the bottom cupboard portion appears to have declared mutiny and is attempting to venture forth on it's own. I so wish we had invested in something else. I should have known better....I should have listened to my husband who said that it would be garbage. *sigh* Now I have to live that down. I give this product 1 start because 0 is not an option.

can this be use as cutting board.

Asked by: tessaganda
Hello, The Lintel Oak finish top with melamine top-coat provides clear, durable finish that resists heat, stains, and scratches. The top is not meant to be used as a cutting board. Thank you for shopping at Sears. Have a great day!

What is the faux slate top made from?

Asked by: beezie
Hello beezie, The top surface of the Sauder Original Cottage Mobile Kitchen Island is made from an environmentally friendly material called 'engineered wood,' a combination of high quality hard wood and soft wood materials which are residuals of other lumber processes. These materials are bonded together with a synthetic resin, and then applied to high heat and pressure. The result is dense, strong panels which are then laminated and cut into pieces. Engineered wood is made to precise design specifications which are tested to meet national standards. Thank you for shopping at Sears. Have a great day!
