We bought this for my almost 5 year old. The first day he used it, he learned to balance. The slightly wider deck is more forgiving than other narrower decks, perfect for the beginner. It was such a hit we're buying one for our other child. No assembly req'd, gotta love that.

Hello,

Yes, the brake is on the back wheel. You step down on the metal fender that is above the back wheel.
