I really like this pump because it is portable and easy to use. I can use it at work without a lot of fuss and it is easy to carry with me.
Using the 4 AA batteries rather than the adapter doesn't decrease the power of the pump so if an outlet isn't readily available it doesn't matter.
What I really love about this pump, however, is that Medela Canada has exceptional customer service. I had to send my pump to the manufacturer to be replaced under warranty because it was turning off mid-session. I was able to speak to someone right away and she was friendly and courteous. She had FedEx pick up the pump from my house and deliver a new one to me in 2 business days (at no charge to me). They kept me updated when they checked out my pump and found the problem, and allowed me to email a photo of the receipt rather than send them the original. I was extremely happy with the service and would buy another Medela product anytime.

This pump is easy to use and fast. The only problem I had was sometimes the little hose would fall out of the bottle part and I had a hard time getting it to stay in, operator error maybe? But otherwise good.

I loved this pump. It was very comparable to the hospital one that you will meet post-partum. Most hospitals have Medela brands- because they work. This pump lasted through 6 pumping sessions a day (both sides) for a year, and helped stock my fridge and freezer- great way to avoid formula and have dad do his part. If you are not able to afford the double pump, do save up for this one. It really is better than the cheaper brands.

The returns policy isn't especially clear about this.

I suspect it would be considered a "Health care product," which once "out of its original packaging" is excluded from the returns policy and "will not be accepted for refund or exchange".

But you did say "unopened", right? Typically the Medela products are closed with a small safety seal at both ends of the box; they're not encased in shrink-wrap or anything like that.

I could easily see them refusing to take it back because it wouldn't necessarily be clear that it wasn't "unopened".

FYI: It is standard practice for most retailers to not accept breast pumps for returns for hygenic reasons.

I have used thsi pump daily for 9 months and have never had milk get into the tubing, but the tubing is also removable and cleanable if you found that you needed to clean it.
Also, there is a mechanism within the pump motor that prevents any liquid from the tubing (ie if there was condensation) from getting into the motor.

All Medela pumps are of the same high quality but designed for different use. This pump is a single electric pump, great if you are planning to support breasfeeding with pumping. The Pump in Style is a double electric pump which will allow you to pump both breasts at the same time. This is great for multiple births or for a mom who wants to reduce pumping time.

Yes, the breastshield/cap is a standard size that will fit onto most plastic bottles. I have tried it with the small Evenflow and Gerber bottles as well as the Playtex Ventaire. I have not tried it on glass bottles but would think that it works as well.
