Rated 4 out of 5 by from Levolor Venetian 1" Rod We purchased the 72-144" expandable rod to hang two 54" panel drapes. The rod quality is good and attractive and all necessary hardware was provided. I had a very difficult time understanding the size and expandability of this rod. Once received, I found that the rod outside diameter was 0.75" diameter, not 1" as per the title. The rod length was 44" with a smaller rod inside. In addition, there was a second 0.75" diameter x 44" rod supplied. Therefore, in theory, you can have a total length of 132" (3 rods of 44") but there would be no support between the inner rod and outer rod. Happily, I needed a rod length of 88" so I used both 0.75" diameter rods with the inner rod extended half way into each for adequate support. If you needed a rod less than 88", you can simply extend the inner rod to suit. You could also try to cut the second 0.75" metal rod to get a continuous rod of 0.75" diameter. There were no instructions, however, on how to properly cut the rod without causing its diameter to distort. If you needed a rod more that 88", you can simply extend the inner rod and use the second 0.75" diameter rod. There needs to be a minimum insertion length between in inner rod and the outer rod but this was not specified. If a minimum insertion length of 6" is used, then the maximum rod length would be 120" (3 rods x 44" less 2 x 6"). This is less that the 144" advertised in the length range. Also, there would be two transition sections where the rod diameter changes between the two 0.75" diameter rods and the inner rod.
