Sorry Kitchen Aid, its going back!

Let me just say for starters that I love the Kitchen Aid food processor that I've had for 10 years: it works great and is very easy to use.

The new one is so complicated you need a PhD in small appliances to use it! They have a different post for every different blade and grating disc and some of them need two different posts! You literally need to read the instructions to see which posts to put with which blades. The old one has one post for every disc, nothing to learn.

When I use my old processor, I start with the chopping blade and throw in my garlic, process, then the onions, process, then switch to the slicing blade for celery, process, then the grating blade for carrots doing all this without changing bowls. This one shook all over the counter (and I checked to see if anything was propping it up so it would wobble) when I was chopping my garlic. I don't know if it didn't like the small amount in the large bowl, but it did settle down after that.

Then comes the feeding tubes. It has three different ones: a tiny round one, a larger oval one and the giant half circle shaped one. Problem is that when I fed carrots thru the small tube, they just went down and pushed the other tubes up so they wouldn't grate! And no matter what I did (taking it all apart to retrieve the pieces of ungrated carrots), the carrots would grate down to carrot strips and then those strips would slip down into the bowl with the actually grated carrots! My old one grated all but little tiny pieces that didn't matter anyway, this new one left large flat pieces ungrated and it flung them down into the bowl so you have to take the whole thing apart to get at them. And no matter what, it wouldn't grate the last of the carrots.

When I tried to slice my celery, it simply didn't want to slice it. My old KA slices so well I'm used to just throwing stuff in the feeding tube and it just slices as fast as I feed it. The new blade is serrated (my old one is just plain and very sharp). I had to shove down very hard, hard enough that I could see the slicing blade slanting sideways where the celery was being pushed against the blade, and it still didn't want to slice the celery. It wasn't the celery, the celery was nice and crisp. Not to mention I've never had trouble slicing celery with my old one. The blades with this machine are not sharp enough, not even as sharp as my 10 year old ones that I've used to death!

And then there is all those feeding tubes which by their very presence leave a whole lot of little spaces for food to get stuck in. I had to use a rubber scraper to scrape around each and every one just to empty it out = giant pain. Can't even imagine how much I would hate trying to wash pie dough out of all those little grooves cuz I already hate washing it out of the one groove on my old one!

So to sum up my complaints:

1) complicated and difficult to use,

2) dull blades that don't cut well,

3) won't grate food down to the very last bits,

4) difficult to clean.

Its a very powerful, pretty and completely frustrating machine!

Great power/accessories, bad bowl plastic

First off, this processor is large. And I mean really tall; there is now way it would fit on the counter under a cupboard. All the accessories and features worked nicely. I chopped: cilantro, garlic, cooked turkey, onion and garlic. I pureed tomatoes. I also grated cheese and sliced celery. Because of the power, it was very easy to over-process items, but I found that if I used the "low" setting, it was much easier to keep an eye on the processing. The only thing it had problems with was the garlic: it simply threw it around the bowl, even with following the instructions exactly. The garlic would get stuck between the feed tube and the lip of the lid (there is a little groove there where things would easily get stuck) and it was a bit of a challenge to get the food out. Overall, I was fairly happy with the food processor UNTIL...

I put the bowl, lid and appropriate accessories in the dishwasher, carefully following the specific instructions included in the box. After the second washing (less than one week after purchase), the bowl had developed a crack. There is no way I would buy a food processor which the bowl could not stand going in the dishwasher, as I want to save time, not make more work in hand washing everything.

Sears was awesome, and gave me my money back. I'm going to try a different brand. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this food processor to anyone.

Unreliable food processor.

The multi-purpose blade broke the first time I used the food processor (blending dried dates). The product was immediately replaced without any hassle. After only a month using the appliance, the multi-purpose blade has again failed (this time blending nuts). The extra slicers and graters are nice, and the mini-blade with mini-bowl addition has never been a problem; but the primary blade is awfully weak and lends itself to a frail product. For a higher-end Kitchenaid food processor to fail twice within a month is simply unacceptable. I cannot recommend this food processor.
