Sears does not currently offer a Power Vent water heater that is suitable for LP (Propane) gas operation.

No, this is not a propane water heater. The power vent model uses natural gas. Please see Item # 73814 found at the link provided below, as this uses liquid propane.

I cannot find these specs in your descriptions and I need to ensure the hot water tank I purchase qualifies for the Home Energy retrofit program

In the programs qualified models, they are listed as Sears Canada models 409.7391 and 409.739. Which hot water tanks are these?

Hey Buddy,
The Power Miser 9, Power Vent water heaters offered by Sears Canada are design certified to be vented with plastic pipe. The termination of the vent system can either horizontal on an exterior wall or vertical through the roof. The PVC or CPVC vent pipe material used must be certified and marked as complying with ULC S638. It is acceptable to use either 2", 3" or 4" vent pipe but the maximum allowable vent lengths depend upon the size used. If 2" diameter pipe is used the maximum allowable vent length is 40 feet, 120 feet when 3" pipe is used and 140 feet when using 4" vent pipe. Keep in mind however that each 90Â° elbow used in the construction of the vent system reduces the maximum allowable vent length by 5 feet.
One additional note...The water heater must be connected to its own independent vent system. It cannot be combined into a common vent with another appliance.

Kenmore water heaters are manufactured by A.O. Smith Corporation in Tennessee. There are actually two different 50-gallon Power Vent heaters available from Sears Canada. Item 73425 is the 40,000 Btu/Hr model and Item 73426 is the 50,000 Btu/Hr unit. Both models have an Energy Factor (EF) of 0.65. Up until September 1, 2010, the criteria for ENERGY STAR was a minimum EF of 0.62 so both of these units built before that date were ENERGY STAR qualified. On September 1st, the minimum EF for ENERGY STAR qualification was raised to 0.67 so these models do not meet the current ENERGY STAR criteria. New Power Vent heaters are in development that will be ENERGY STAR qualified. Expect to find them at Sears in June or July.
