Purchase based on Consumer Reports rated (#1) but

Consumer Reports rated this as the Number 1 canister Vac in their testing. I bought it based on this and the fact that I had a Kenmore 8900 canister vac that lasted 27 years.

In the less than 2 years that I have owned this it has been in for repairs twice. The bearings burned out on the power head and then the cord retractor was not functioning properly. Ironically had I know this was going to be a 'dog' I would have tried to have the power head repaired on my old Kenmore 8900 as it was the only part that stopped working after 27 years...the canister/motor still works fine. They definitely don't make 'em like they used to. Thankfully I purchased extended warranty...

Pros:Â Comfortable

Cons:Â Not well constructed, Noisy

I love the controls on the handle, the headlights, removable floor brushhead, cord rewind, all accessories are conveniently located on the machine, and easy to change, and they are all useful!
It looks nice and is easy to guide under and around anything, on hardwood or carpet.
I've had it for 6 months. I love it!

Pros:Â Easy to clean, Well constructed, Comfortable, Stylish, bags/filters are easy to get and change.

Very disappointed

Vacuum worked great for a while and then the power head stopped working. Took it in for service to Sears and waited 4 MONTHS to get it back. Now, 4 months later, same problem with the power head. This was a lot of money to spend for a vacuum we purchased 3 years ago. More disappointed with Sears service than anything, and I am a diehard Kenmore user.

Vacuum is a couple years old. The power head stopped working. This machine is a lot of money to only get a couple years out of the power head.

Great Suction-Nice Tools-Poor Tracking

I have owned Kenmore products for over 30 years. Kenmore appliances have been a mainstay in our household. The Intuition is no exception.

As far as cleaning is concerned, it is second to none. It has great tools in a convenient storage tray. It does however have two draw backs. The hose is difficult to detach from the wand, for a small woman it could be quit a trial. In narrow areas like hallways you will hit from wall to wall, as it always follows the last path it was on. You must have it lined up perfectly, otherwise it will hit the walls before correcting only to hit the other wall on correction. You can stop this by pulling the intuition by the hose close to the machine. This however, is a real annoyance.

It cleans beautifully but changing tools is diffcult and having it follow where you want can be trying at times.

Pros:Â Stylish, great suction

Cons:Â does not track correctly, hard to remove hose from wand

Plastic connector switch on Kenmore canister vacuums

I have a much older Kenmore canister vacuum, with metal release buttons to connect/disconnect the wand from the handle. Do the current models have the same design? One post I read seemed to indicate the release mechanism is made of plastic, and prone to breaking.

The release mechanisms are synthetic but seem heavy duty, and are easy to use. There is a large button to remove the wand, and a lever to remove the hose from the vacuum. I find them much easer than ones on the old Filter Queen I had.
