Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a difference this softener made to our lives. We had a two piece water conditioner before but this works better. Easy to put in and set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kenmore®/MD Extra High Efficiency Water Softener Works extremely well and is very efficient on salt. I live in the country and have well water which is extremely high in iron. My old softener had stopped working and our water was an ugly orange color and extremely hard. Replaced it with this model and within less than a week, water colour was restored and water was softer than it had ever been at this residence. Would highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Soft Water a must The Kenmore MD Extra High Efficiency Softener works very good. Water is soft and it is taking a long time between regenerations.

Model recommendation

I'm replacing our Kenmore Super Capacity Genius Plus after serving us well for about 20 years. I had the water tested recently and was advised our total hardness is 20gpg, iron is 0mg/l, pH is 7 and total dissolved solids is 365 mg/l. We have a family of four with 2 1/2 bathrooms. What softener model would you recommend?

Water Softner

Do you need a plumber or is this a do it yourself project?
Asked by: Egger
Hello Egger, Our supplier has advised that if you can perform basic plumbing tasks, such as being able to cut and solder copper piping or cut and connect the new plastic-style plumbing, then you would be able to install the Kenmore®/MD Extra High Efficiency Water Softener with complete installation kit by yourself. Thank you for shopping at Sears and have a great day!

Correct Softener

The water in our town is quite hard. It is rated at 50 grains hard. Is this the correct softener for this type of water or do I need a different model? If so, what do you recommend?
Asked by: AG17
We'd recommend the UltraSoft 800 for this water hardness.

Asked by: crpresser
The correct setting for the hardness would be 8.

Right size/type

I have a family of 4. Is this tank large enough or I should go for the 800 series? Also, does all Kenmore softener has chlorine removal included? Finally, does the softener works 24/7? Or there will be down time in between. If so, will there be indicator during down time?
Asked by: ctomfung
This model would be adequate for a family of four with up to 20 grains of water hardness. If your water is harder then we'd suggest moving up to the UltraSoft 400. The only softener that features chlorine removal is the Hybrid sku 75590. This is a Kenmore exclusive available only at Sears, and again would be good for up to four. All Kenmore softeners work 24/7, with the exception of when they regenerate (typically once a week), and this only takes two hours. The softener's display indicates when it is in regeneration mode.

Gallons of water per regeneration cycle.

Please respond to the 3 questions. I am looking at item # 427 975 126 10 and I am wondering how many gallons of water it uses per regeneration cycle? There are only 2 people living in the house, will this water softener be sufficient? The web page does not offer many specs. Is there somewhere that I can find out more detailed info about this softener. Thanks
Asked by: tomthebomb
This model uses a maximum of 35 US gallons per regeneration. For a household of two this model will suffice with up to 45 gpg of hardness. We recommend that if you do not know your water hardness to have it tested. For more details and specs please call the Kenmore Water line toll-free at 1-800-287-0756.
