Rated 5 out of 5 by from does the job, a real workhorse I bought this a month ago and have been operating it non-stop. Leaves a nice fresh smell behind as it pulls the water out of the air. Used it on the main level before I took it to the basement. You can hear the fan but not invasive - overall an excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice and quiet I bought two of these in may of this year for the basement of our 1950's bungalow that like all 1950's houses is damp in the basement. I have had them running none stop since they arrived with both set at 50%. I am very happy to report they are very quiet and do an amazing job of keeping the basement dry. I recommend cleaning the filters often as this keeps noise down and helps the motor. A couple of years ago I bought a Samsung model which didn't make it through the first year and was only used occasionally in our previous home. I bought that one from Sears as well and was hesitant to go back but, I am so glad I did. I can't say enough how highly I would recommend this machine. By the way, I bought the 70 pint machine thinking it would be more durable and heavy duty.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from effective, but not quiet enough The air discharges from the top of the unit, not from the side, as mentioned in the product features page. An entry in the Q&A section said that the power rating for the 70 pint unit is the same as that of the 50 pint unit. This confused me until I saw the specs on the box. The 70 pint rating indicates how much water will be removed in 24 hours. I doubt the power ratings are the same for the 70 pint unit and the 50 pint unit. The wattage of the unit is not disclosed anywhere - the web page, the user guide, or the box. The capacity of the water bucket is 16 pints. This is indicated on the box, not in the user manual. The fan never shuts off. The compressor apparently does shut off when the desired RH is attained. The digital readout shows the user-set RH level as well as the actual RH level. I wish the fan would shut off as well when not needed. The fan, at the lower setting, is by no means "quiet" . I have to situate the unit 20 feet away from my bedroom's closed door to be not bothered by the fan noise ("bothered" is of course subjective.) Why is the noise (DB) level not specified anywhere? The unit has a male connection on the back to connect a garden hose to. Its size is not specified in the user manual. The unit apparently does NOT have a pump. The manual says that the hose must not be "elevated". If the unit wasn't on sale, I would have spent some time researching reviews, especially to compare noise ratings.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too basic I ordered this because it had good reviews and the Q&A section answered by Sears staff claimed it can be programmed for off-peak hours when it CAN NOT. It has a very basic kitchen timer style feature meaning it can be programmed to come on after x hours, or programmed to turn off after x hours. Both timers can not be set at once, meaning you have to manually set the timer again each day and hope you don't forget. I have a 10 year old dehumidifier that has a far more advanced control panel than this. It's 2014 and this thing has an 80's style numeric display with only 2 digits. It shows the current humidity in 5% increments meaning 47% = 50%. It has no temperature readout, and no programmable off-peak hours capability. Even though it claims it's 70-pint, my old one was still able to keep the humidity in the basement below 50%, and this one can not. I don't know how many "pints" mine was. Luckily I didn't throw it out yet, because it is far superior to this brand new one. My 15 year old cheap digital stopwatch does more than the control panel on this. It's too basic for my liking. I'm very disappointed in both its performance and its capabilities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best dehumidifier I've ever owned. This dehumidifier works like a horse, and it is unbelievably quiet. It just sounds like a fan operating. In fact I wan't sure it was working at all until I saw the drip-drip from the exhaust hose (I use continuous drain). And the amount of water it pulls from the air is astounding; it works about twice as fast as my old one. Either dehumidifier technology has improved a lot since I bought my last one 6 years ago, or this unit is simply top-notch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After a pipe leaked in my basement I have been using it on a regular basis : it is very efficiant and it is easy to service. Even though the leak has been fixed and the basement is back to normal, I will keep using it to maintain a proper humidity level. Ann in Halifax

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Bought this about a month ago and it has ran full time since then. Super quiet compared to our other one and has a nice handle on the bucket so dumping it is a breeze. Easy to understand and user friendly! I also like that it measures the humidity level in your home and displays it clearly on the digital screen.

My previous question related to the size of the bucket underneath, not to the amount of water vapour cleared daily by the dehumidifier. My present 50 pint Sears dehumidifier has a bucket capacity of 19 pints. I wish to buy one with a similar bucket size.

Asked by: deena25
Hello deena25, The bucket size of the Kenmore®/MD 70 pint Dehumidifier is 8.0 Liters (17-pints). Thank you for shopping at Sears. Have a great day!

What is the capacity of the bucket? My previous 50 pint Kenmore dehumidifier had a capacity of 19 pints. I do not have a floor drain. I would prefer a 50 pint model if it is available
