The bobbin casing is plastic, just like so many parts today. I have been using my machine for 8 months and am now having to replace the bobbing casing due to thread wear. Extremely frustrated. I have had nothing but problems with the wires being loose in the machine causing problems with the foot petal. I have had just as much down time as up since I have owned the machine. The machine is no longer running smoothly. I have made sure to clean the machine and keep up regular maintenance.

Cons:Â Not well constructed, plastic pieces, poor manual

Great machine, runs smoothly and quietly!

I found it easy to use. It functions very smoothly and it was so simple to change settings using the electronic keypad. It was my first electronic machine and I will never go back to a standard machine!

Kenmore MD 50-Stitch Sewing machine

I recently purchased this machine. Find it is very easy to use. Hopefully it will last as long as my last Kenmore (34 years). I have not had an opportunity to use all the features but I am sure from my experience so far it will perform well. The one item that I would like to see more explanation on is the thread tension. From what I have seen all the adjustments have to be done on the top thread. Overall a nice machine for the hobby sewer.

Awesome machine!

After using my mom's machine for way too long, I bought this one and I'm loving it. As my first sewing machine purchase, I was wondering if I should have gotten such a fancy machine but now I'm thrilled with my decision. I have more options than my mom's machine offers which will make future projects that much easier to do.

Picked it up a few days ago, just tested it and I don't want to stop sewing! There are so many stitches to choose from. I love the straight stitch options, with the auto reverse stitches or auto-locking stitches at the beginning.

The only negative things I have to mention are:
1. The soft case is a cheap piece of plastic that you could have gotten from the dollar store. But is a good reference if you want to make your own.
2. The storage drawer has a tiny opening on the side, so when you take it off the machine things fall out. And to get one item out you have to dump everything out.
3. I have yet to find in the manual any mention of how to control the amount of pressure on the pressure foot. As I know I will be sewing with stretch fabrics frequently and the pressure has to be less on them, this is a fairly big negative.

Pros:Â Well constructed, Comfortable

Cons:Â cheap soft cover, poorly designed storage drawer

Great machine

This sewing machine is fantastic, really quiet and easy to use. The stitch selection is amazing and lots of fun to try them out. I have really enjoyed sewing on it and it has brought back my interest in sewing.

In the manual (pg 12) it explains that you use the up and down arrows to choose the different stitches. The large numbers that appear on the left correspond with the numbered stitches shown on the machine. If these numbers are underlined then by pressing the up and down arrows it will increase or decrease the number.

Most of those stitch patterns can be adjusted by width and length to allow the user to achieve different sewing applications or functions (please see page 50 of the manual for stitch width and length adjustments). Yes, you can drop the feed dogs. There is a lever located underneath the free arm bed on the back of the machine. Move lever left to drop and right to raise.
