Do ALL Humidifiers have a filter and therefore need filter changes and do you also need to use Water Treatment for all kinds of Humidifiers?

Last year I bought a ionized humifier which is cool air mist humidifier with no filters. It did a great job and wasn't noisy, but it creates a white dust everywhere and I was told this was damaging to the lungs. So, in my opinion, filters are an essential part of a good humidifier.

No, warm moisture humidifiers do not need a wick/filter as they use steam to produce moisture.
A warm moisture humidifier will of course increase the temperature of a room.
A cool moisture humidifier uses air blown across a membrane (wick/filter) to add moisture to the air. Wicks will need to be changed frequently, as they are generally made of a paper material and deteriorate over time.
Most wicks will have an anti bacterial solution impregnated in them so you won't get mold forming and to kill off some types of bacteria in the water. You are not required to add any water treatment to any humidifier. It is entirely up to you.
