Good Value for the Money

I just received this machine as a gift, and so far I am pleased with its performance. My old Kenmore 4 stitch is over 30 years old, and I just retired it, because it had more miles on it then my vehicle. The only downfall I found with this machine is, where the light is, isn't hinged, but screwed in, which makes it a bit difficult, but on an overall review, its a great machine, does everything I ask of it.

I got this machine for Christmas. The last time I sewed was in grade 8 Home Ec. (which was countless years ago). I was amazed at how simple it was to use. At first I loaded the thread wrong (silly me - I guess reading instruction is a good thing) but thanks to the step by step instructions and the troubleshooting page, I was off and sewing in no time.
Its a great little machine and I look forward to using it more over the years.

Pros:Â Comfortable, Well constructed

A pretty good little great machine

Iâm no expert at all, have learned more than forty years ago on my motherâs old Singer, I should say Iâm a mid-beginner mid intermediary level. This model has the basics and more, straight stitch, zig zag, reverse option, different stitch lengths, one step buttonhole, so, it really meets all my requirements. Not too loudly, works fine, foot pedal just anough nervous like I like it to be, In my humble opinion itâs a pretty good little great machine! And itâs not expensive! Thumbs up!

Reliable Machine

This machine replaced my old one for general sewing purposes. I find it has all the requirements I need for my projects, and is easy to use for threading, creating buttonholes, and also provides a great variety of stitching options.

Just wanted to say that I got this sewing machine for xmas and so far it seems like it is what I am looking for however, it did not come with a screw driver to adjust the foot and needles and it did not come with a small cleaning brush.

Problem with the hard cover

I just bought this sewing machine and it came with a hard cover. However this hard cover doesn't seem to match with the machine as there is a "hole" for the carrying handle in the cover but it's in the wrong place so that you can't lift the handle while the cover is on. Have I got the wrong cover with my sewing machine?

No you probably have the correct cover BUT you must LIFT the handle and then slide the cover down over the machine while the handle is up. The cover only fits properly one way. Wrong way and the cover is a bit loose, correct way and the cover fits snuggly over the machine.

To Drop or Raise the Feed Dog (Pg 34 of manual)
Open the hook cover
To drop the feed dog, pull down the drop lever and move it to the right. To raise the feed dog, pull down the drop lever and move it to the left.
Feed dog must be up for normal sewing. Feed dog will return to the UP position when the machine starts running.

5 mm stitch width how do you change the stitck width

In a previous post it was mentioned that this machine had a 5mm stitch width but on the machine there is no adjustment for it. when you use each stitch are you then somehow able to change it?

Sears said: "There is a lever to adjust stitch width and another lever to adjust stitch length" LEVER is not the correct way to describe it, KNOB is better.

From the manual: it looks like you adjust the width when using zigzag sewing. The Stitch Pattern selector KNOB seems to be the place to make the width adjustment and this is described on Page 44 of the Manual, Section IV. ZigZag Stitch Sewing, Basic Zigzag.

Two knobs on front of machine. Knob on the right is called "Length" and the knob to the left is "Pattern" and this is knob to use to adjust the stitch width for zigzag sewing.

On pg 2 of the Manual where it describes parts of the machine, right at the top it says . . . Sewing Machine cabinets are available at Sears store. The the right is a picture of where the screws are located on the bottom to attach to a sewing table/cabinet.

Yes thank goodness. I needed a magnifying glass first time I used it to see what the manual was describing but now I just pull it down, hook the thread under (can't see it even with my glasses) and it works every time.
