Where the wand part of the vacuum attaches to the carpet vacuum head the wires got worn out which caused the vacuum to short out and now the vacuum no longer works.

The attachment of the electrical wires to the vacuum head was not well thought out, I would think others would have the same problem (they rub against the vacuum as you move the vacuum!).

Kenmore Elegance vacuum

I'll never buy another one! The carpet cleaner always made a huge noise. Bad motor. Also vibrations from the plastic cover added to the noise. Bulbs burned out every month. Had it fixed once for noise. Was not bad for a few months, but when it started screaming again, my warranty had run out. Now the plastic head cover (don't remember what it's called) is all cracked, adding to the noise. I'll try to buy the parts now and fix it myself. No more Kenmore ever!

Pros:Â nice stairway cleaner

Cons:Â Not well constructed, uncomfortable, terrible inconvenient wand, see above review

Kenmore Canister Vacuum

This Kenmore Canister vacuum is one of the best and with a 12 amp motor is actually more powerful than the Dyson. It has a motorized power nozzle for better cleaning, HEPA cloth dust bag , electronic performance indicator, ergonomic handle which is easy on your back, a very long cord and hose. Also has an aluminum electrified telescopic wand. This vacuum will reach under beds and furniture where the uprights do not. It has all attachments which are stored right in the vacuum itself. To me this vacuum is a better buy than a Dyson.

Pros:Â Well constructed, works better than a dyson

The hepa cloth vacuum bag would need to be changed when it is full.

How often would depend on how often one vacuums and if there are pets etc.

It depends on the length of the shag carpet fibers. In most cases, shag carpet can be vacuumed with a power nozzle, although you might want to set the height adjust to a higher setting., In the case of very long fibers, they could wrap around the agitator causing it to stop. In that case, using the bare floor brush would be the best option. There is no specialized shag tool.

This model has a "quick release" lever that you press with your foot to easily disconnect the wand from the power nozzle. The bare floor brush (or other tools) can then be attached. When done, remove the tool and reinsert the wand to the power nozzle. There is no need to plug or unplug any cords.
