We received this monitor set as a gift when our son was born and it is great!!!. Works well, clear sound and the rechargeable batteries on the portable parent units last quite awhile. We love having the 2 parent units so that when one needs charging we have the other to use or my husband and I can both carry one for double listening. Would definitely recommend!

The baby's room unit uses 3 AAA batteries that are designed as backup for AC power failure, but the batteries could theoretically be used as the primary power source.
