Overall, a decent treadmill...

I've had this treadmill for two weeks now and wanted to write a review because I couldn't find any reviews for Free Spirit treadmills online. (I did discover "Free Spirit" is a brand name owned by Sears. Sears buys treadmills from companies that make them and puts their own brand name on them.)

Before you read on, keep in mind the only experience I have had with a treadmill was the one I used at the gym. The treadmill was incredibly easy to assemble. I was able to put it together on my own in less than 30 minutes. In fact, it took me longer to it out of the box than it did to put together. (The bottom part of the treadmill is 45-50lbs.) There were 5 parts in total: the part you walk on, the two side bars, the console and the fan. I found the instruction book quite easy to follow.

The part of the treadmill you walk on is incredibly stable. However, at first, the belt was slippery in spots. I noticed lubricant had gotten on the belt. It was impossible to wipe off. I hoped, eventually, it would wear off. It has. The part that has a cheap feel is the console. It's made out of a cheap, light plastic. It wouldn't surprise me if the console is the first thing to stop working well.

The speakers are such low quality that I would recommend sticking with headphones. The fan works well enough, but I ended up taking it off the console.

It was easy to figure out how to choose a program or create your own. Once I got going on it, I found the amount of noise the treadmill makes while running was bearable. (Most of the time I have headphones on, but when I didn't the sound of the motor wasn't annoying.) When using the heart rate handles, I have come to realize, you have to hold on to them for about 30 seconds before you get a result. Finally, folding and unfolding the treadmill was easy enough. Keep in mind, "folding" doesn't mean you can fold it then slide it under your bed. "Folding means the base of the treadmill is raised to, about, a 33-degree angle when upright. You could fold the treadmill and lean it against a wall, but it doesn't lay completely flat.

Overall, I feel good about this treadmill. I was nervous that, because it was mid-range in price, it would be unstable and have a cheap feel. While I would have liked a more solid console, the treadmill itself does what I need it to do.
