Set up was easy with template provided, I did have to notch out my floor molding but it wasn't a big deal. Gate is easy to use, even with one hand.

Great gate -- DO NOT PAINT

I bought this and loved it, until i painted it (it currently states wood can be painted or stained)
Well once you paint it the gate no longer slides open and closed smoothly. Its very hard to open or close requiring two hands. Now we need to buy a new gate. Before painting it we were very happy with the gate. So if you buy i suggest not painting it, even though it says you can. Set up was simple

Pros:Â Sturdy, Easy setup

Cons:Â not stylish

Terrible design

This gate has a terrible design! The wall mounted brackets must be placed perfectly for it to slide together. If your wall is not exactly 90 degrees then it catches every time you try to slide it back in to lock position. This gets to be a big irritant as you then have to force it in the bracket each time.

Also, the slide bar is metal on wood and does not slide well.

It works, but given the choice I would spend the extra money on a better quality gate.

Pros:Â Sturdy

Cons:Â not well-built

Good gate for the price

We have only just bought and installed this gate, but so far we are very pleased. Set up was fairly easy - my husband commented that the template included with the instructions made it very easy to figure out where to drill the holes for the hardware. Our daughter is only 17+ months old and hasn't really tried to "slam" into the gate, but it seems very solid. It is also nice that you can stain the gate in order to make it blend in more with your home decor, if you wish. Time will tell how it holds up, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this gate to a friend.

Pros:Â Well-built, Stylish, Easy setup

We have this gate at the top of our stairs and are very happy with it. It was easy to install from our wall to our top banister and matched well with our decor. Also can be lifted right out of the mounting brackets if you want to remove it with the option of still being able to quickly put it back in place should you need it again. Easy for adults to grip and open yet firm enough to prevent little hands from opening.

Pros:Â Durable, Easily stowed, Easy setup, Easy to use

The recalled gate is model 10502. The replacement gate is model 10503. If you own the 10503 gate it is not recalled.

The bars are spaced 7cm apart. You can swing the gate forward and backward, so I think it would be good at an entrance as well.

The spacing is around 2- 3/4" or so. We would recommend using a specific pet gate to prevent the cat from squeezing through there. This gate can be installed in doorways, hallways, stairs, etc. - as long as it can be installed into a wall stud.

If you can not mount the hardware into the banister due to its' shape, then using the gate installation kit may be a good option for you. Some gates include a mounting bar as part of the design to install on the wall. If a gate will be installed in an area with a banister, using the gate installation kit is recommended for the safest application.

The gate must be installed no more than 3" from the floor. If the base-board is 5" you would need to find a different location to install the gate. All gates require installation at 3" or less from the floor.
