Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Machine Had to attach the handle and hook up the throttle and Forward/reverse cables. The gear cable came attached backwards on the handle, once I figured that out, the rest was easy. The tiller works great, chews up clay no problem and lots of power, fairly easy to handle but tough in corners. This machine works just as well as the big commercial tiller I used to rent, I'm very happy with it. Starts up real easy as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Satified so far. We've been using a Mantis tiller for all our flower beds and garden, but wanted a stronger machine to shorten the time and to be able to break sod for a vegetable gardens and freshen around tree lines. After much investigation into rear tine tillers, we chose the Sears machine with the $200 discounted price. It was easy to complete the final assembly. It started on the third pull of the recoil starter. The controls are easy to use and the guards do a good job of protecting ones feet. We tilled our main vegetable garden in about an hour this spring, which took about 6 times longer with the Mantis. It tilled deeply and very thoroughly. I've tested breaking sod for our new garden and believe it will do well. Long term durability remains to be seen, but I am very satisfied at this time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rear Tine Tiller Received this tiller a few days ago. Final assembly was done on the back of a pickup truck before removing it from the crate. Getting it off the truck was tricky because of the machine's weight. Once on the ground, fuel and oil was added. Start up took two pulls of the starter rope. The machine has good power and will cut through hard clay with little effort. Chain drive machines I have used in the past were far more difficult and uncomfortable to use because of their bulk and laud exhaust note. This machine is very well built considering the low price. This same machine was much more expensive several years ago. The addition of a remote throttle cable would improve the operation of this machine as the speeds can be changed without leaving the controls as conditions change.

does this have reverse

I was just wondering if this has reverse?
Asked by: tigger323
Hi Stratman2500 I did get this and it does have reverse, thank goodness, the only thing I don't like is when you start it and start moving across the yard you have to hold it up to drive because the tines keep going, never had a rototiller before so guess this is normal, I do love it and is the best investment I made, very easy to start, does and awesome job, enjoy yours :)

Bumper?

The product description for Item #: 713 162 103 10 says that this tiller has a bumper. Neither the illustration nor the actual product has or shows anything that resembles a bumper. Is this an extra cost option? •Adjustable side panels, Cast iron transaxle, "Bumper", Air cleaner, metal gas tank Thank you
Asked by: Albert01
Hello Albert01, Please be advised our supplier states the bumper for the CRAFTSMAN®/MD Counter-Rotating Rear Tine Tiller is located underneath the engine, and it is not like a tractor bumper. It prevents the engine from being damaged by ensuring that it does not hit anything infront while you are tilling. Thanks for shopping at Sears and have a great day!
