What a Machine

I love this tractor. I have only owned it for about 3 weeks but it is a blast to ride. I have a 10 acre plot of land with an acre of grass, so this machine may be a little overkill. This is the 3rd Craftsman tractor I have owned since 1993. I owned another kind before that. This is the quietest machine I have owned. I am big on reading reviews on things I am thinking of buying. I was very excited when they called the day before they delivered it. The tractor was being delivered along with a new upright Kenmore freezer that my wife was looking forward to. I watched the guys offload the huge crate with the tractor in it and plop it on the driveway. When I got the crate apart I noticed that the deck had been rubbing against the hood and grille, leaving scratches in the paint and grille. I thought I was going to be ill. I called the store and was assured it would be rectified. I was given the choice of another tractor, a reduced price, or a new hood. I opted for the hood as there was no other scratches on the machine. I will let you know how that turns out. I am a big heavy guy and I feel very comfortable riding this machine. As I get more hours on it I will write more.

Pros:Â Good quality, great looking.

Cons:Â terrible fuel tank site glass.

I bought this model this year and use it daily for yard work and mowing approximately 2.5 acres. The fuel gage is in an odd location but really isn't needed with the reserve fuel switch. I ran out of gas in the "back forty" and was able to swich to reserve fuel and get back to my fuel cans. I especially like the hydrostatic transmission.

I bought this tractor mostly for snow removal. I also bought the CRAFTSMANÂ®/MD 44'' All-steel Frame 2-Stage Snowblower with Electric Lift Kit.

Together both are everything and more of what I expected. Lots of power, easy to get in and out of tight spots. Would highly recommend to anyone. Saw where others had trouble going up hill. I have had none of that.With the tire chains went everywher I wanted it to.

My only complaint with this tractor is the fuel gauge. Very hard to see how much fuel you actually have.

Pros:Â Durable, Good quality, Compatible

Cons:Â hard to read fuel gauge

Fuel Capacity

I was wondering what the true capacity of the fuel tank on this 26 HP GTS 5000 Garden Tractor was. I ran out of fuel the other day, which is no big deal as I was near the garage. The site claims it to have 4 US gallons (3.3 Imperial Gallons or 15 Liters. When I refilled the tank it only appeared to take approx. 3 US gallons or 11 liters to completely fill it. Does this mean that the reserve portion of the tanks holds almost 1 US Gallon? Thanks

Garden tractor differences

Your online catalogue has a 710360910 tractor, $3499 w/26 HP Briggs and a just arrived catalogue, "Our Buyers Best" has a 712360910 w/24 HP Kohler, but it is not online so I can do a comparison (other than the obvious HP and engine type difference). Can you provide specs on the second one for a comparison?

Not sure why Sears does not post these guides as a link under every tractor.
You have to hunt for it on the site, found in the resource center. Dont know how but i managed to get the 2009 and 2010 guides simply by refreshing the page.

Hello Frend,

The difference between lawn, yard and garden tractors is in the size of the unit and the power of the unit. Either a YT or a GT would be good for 10 acres of property, especially for snow removal. The key for snow removal is hydrostatic automatic drive. The other deciding factor will be whether a customer plans to use ground engaging equipment in which case you would choose the GT.
