Good basic unit

But unfortunately for the price, there are better features for the same price in other models.

The good:
Less stuff to go wrong (very basic)
B&S motor - really good reputation in winter.
Ability to release one wheel to move it around easy in summer in garage.

The bad:
The loose wheel trick doesn't work in snow, there is just not enough traction - need both engaged.
No remote chute defector control - have to walk around the blower each time.
Auger gap - mine is horrible in wet snow - blocks immediately in dense wet - the auger gap is over 1/4 inch.
Rust!? - I've used mine maybe 8 times in 2 years and I got rust on the front of the body where no rocks hit.

Summary - if you are looking for a bombproof, simple, small machine, this will do the job for you in everything but the wettest snow. The engine and frame seem really strong, but if you want features and are willing to go with an LCT engine or other, you can get the features at this price.

Good choice for a compact, simple snowblower if you have a smaller area to clear. It doesn't have as many features as some others but that just means less to break. Easy to maneuver by hand. Doesn't seem to have trouble chewing through somewhat wet snow. Could throw a little farther, but if you have a less space to clear that could be a positive.

Pros:Â Lightweight, Compact, Easy to use

Cons:Â could throw farther

1. How does 205cc equate to HP? I currently own a 12 HP blower. Is this larger? smaller? Why the change?

2. Torque is measured in pounds-feet (the torque produced by one pound-force acting tangentially at a radius of 1 foot); work is measured in foot-pounds (the work done by a force of one pound acting through a distance of one foot). You should be reporting torque values in pounds-feet.

Hello pdh2,

HP numbers are not supplied by the manufacturer Briggs and Stratton as they are not allowed to due to current laws.

That leaves torque, which is a measurement of "twisting force" a 1350 engine has 13.5 foot pounds of torque, which is our second largest blower motor. CC's of engine have no direct relationship to torque.

There is no conversion chart of torque to HP as it is engine design, that determines torque. A car engine vs a truck engine in the same CC size will have vastly different torque and hp ratings.

No, but close - If memory serves me, all I had to do was attach the chute crank and the handlebars and adjust the skids to the right height.

All in - about 20-30 minutes of work.

Some assembly is required. Handles need to be flipped up and reconnected. The chute crank assembly also needs to be attached. Other than that, the rest of the unit is assembled.

Have assembled this snowblower and it is working but it is leaving several centimeters of snow on the drive each time it is used, it is not getting down and clearing all of it. Is there a setting that should be adjusted? Or is there a helpline I could call?

Put something 1/8 inch under the scraper bar, then loosen the skid bolts, once the scraper bar is 1/8 inch from the ground, retighten the skid bolts. This will set the height properly. Two stages are very difficult to set to clear everything, but it should be just a bit, not several centimeters left.

THe heavier a snow blower is, the better it will stay down and not lift when it hits deep or hard packed snow. This would be a light machine because of its HP and I suspect it does not weigh 80 lbs. Do yourself a favour and buy a 10HP 27 inch with a throttle control and light just for the much needed added weight. It wont cost you very much more and you will be much more impressed with it's performance in the years to come.

chute moves when running

Hi, just before this winter I started my my Dual Stage 9HP 27 inch snow blower (52129). It runs great and I have never really had any problems except for general maintenance.

However, when running the vibration is causing my chute to move on its own. It is a manually operated chute with a chute rod that you turn by hand.

There does not appear to be any wear or tear on the gear assembly or any loose parts! I can repair pretty much anything on the snowblower but don't know why it would do this or what needs to be replaced. Everything is also tight. Any suggestions?
