Great kettle

I have had this kettle for ten years, but about six months ago, my husband dropped it and broke a small piece out of the handle. still works perfectly, but leaks out the bottom marginally. So I feel like it's time to get a new one. I lived in Canada for 43 years, so I am very familiar with electric kettles. I had actually bought 10 of them at the time (for potential wedding gifts for friends in the U.S. who had never heard of such a thing---no duplicate gifts there LOL!). LOVE the speed at which they boil water! To the reviewer that was unhappy with the auto shut-off, it doesn't advertise an auto shut-off, it advertises a BOIL-DRY PROTECTION, meaning that if it boils dry, it shuts off before it becomes a danger. And it does just that. I've gotten a little preoccupied and forgotten it, and it has boiled dry and shut itself off, so that's a great safety feature!

Newer model not as good

I have an old black & decker kettle at the cottage that works great and I wanted another one for the house. However, the newer style does not have a removable lid. The only opening is at the spout. Also, the automatic shut off does not work efficiently. It will boil for two or more minutes and the shut off has not yet kicked in. I end up just unplugging it to stop the boiling. I was going to return it but it does boil quickly and I just make sure I am there to unplug it as soon as it boils.

Pros:Â boils quickly

Cons:Â shut off not efficient, no lid opening

This kettle is NOT cordless and does NOT have a detachable base. Description is totally wrong.

No. That's why I like it. Whistling kettles drive me crazy! I know the water is boiling when it transitions from noisy to quiet.

Hello,

The Black & DeckerÂ® Kettle does not whistle but it does have an auto shut off. There are no similar electric kettles that do whistle.

As long as it has enough water in it, it will continue to boil. It will only shut off when you unplug it, or it boils dry.
