I read the 1st review before I purchased and it is very accurate. The unit is tempermental in its height adjustment and too high or low can mean missing the leaves or grass you want to pick up or the brush binding when set too low or hitting a high spot. It takes some tinkering to get it just right, but once you do, it works really well. Getting it unjammed is a bit difficult, but not overly so.

My main complaint is that when you want to dump the load, the sweeper/brush is still turning so you cannot dump it over current waste as it will want to sweep it up while you trying to manouver for the dump process. It might be nice to have a brush dis-engage so that you can move around with the brush constantly working. Maybe have it so that when you raise the basket to dump, the brush disengages?

Other than that, I really like the unit as it picks up leaves and grass exceptionally well and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to my friends.

As a Northern Ontario Resort Owner, I purchased this unit with the intentions of it picking up Canadian Goose droppings, pine cones, pine needles and leaves. After tesing for one day I was impressed by how much it picked up but noticed that it had some draw backs that I did not contemplate. It basically only works on smooth ground, the brush cannot reach into low areas and it gets stuck on high spots. Another thing I noticed and I believe this is an easy fix, is that the lower front edge of the unit is too high off the ground and it allows the brush to flick items under it. This was quite evident by the splattering of goose droppings on the back of the mower. My plan is to apply a flexible strip along the leading edge to prevent this. Another draw back is that it works fantastic on gravel. When crossing gravel paths it picks up lots of stones. It would be very benificial if this unit could be raised or disengaged so that you can cross areas that you do not want to sweep.
I plan on reviewing this again after I have used it more but if I cannot improve the performance I will be lowering it to a 3.

Will the lawn sweeper function backing up ? In other words, does it still pick up while in reverse, or does it go in idle mode ?

It does not pick up in reverse, it does idle or disengages when moving wheels in reverse
