I love these blinds and they were the perfect solution for my french doors. The cordless feature is great around little kids, they look great and the price was right. However - the quality certainly is an issue. As other reviewers have said, these are prone to defects. I bought two blinds and one has failed within six months of use. The string inside the blind snapped, and because the strings are encased in fabric I couldn't see any easy way to replace it. So I have just purchased another blind to replace the one that broke. So I guess you get what you pay for.

I recently re decorated my bedroom with greys and purples. Upon my shopping I discovered the colour purple is not as easy to find as I had hoped. When I came across the blinds in the catalogue I was ecstatic. My husband hung them and the one hangs crooked and i have tried to straighten it out but to no avail. The other one bunches up when I raise it and I have to play with with. I do love the idea of no cords dangling down.

Love this blind...but

Comments about WholeHome®/MD Room-Darketing Striped Roman Shade:

I bought two of these for side-by-side windows in my master bedroom. They look fabulous and I love that they are cordless but quality is an issue. They have only been raised or lowered about 10 times in the two months that I have had them and one of them just broke on me. Thankfully there is a 1 year warranty and Sears is replacing it for me but if it is replaced with another defective shade then there could be future problems.

I ordered 3 of these for my bedroom. The first one I opened had been previously opened, was broken and missing the screws. I opened the 2nd one, hung it, noticed it wouldn't hang level. All three were packaged so tightly that they had deep creases in the fabric. I doubt these creases would ever come out. The fabric also puckers along the horizontal seams causing gaps that lets the light in.
If only they looked as good as in the picture!!
    I sent them back.

Comments about WholeHome®/MD Room-Darketing Striped Roman Shade:

I originally bought three of these shades to cover my large bathroom window. I was happy that they were opaque enough that I had no worries at night about anyone being able to see through. However, I was a little concerned how delicately I had to treat them as I opened and closed them every day. Sure enough I had one break but luckily I was able to fix it. Now a few months later the same shade has broken again and I was forced to buy a new one. The next time one breaks I will seriously consider replacing all three with a different type of shade.

True width (bracket to bracket): Hello,

I have a 5 panel bay window where I'd like to install these shades. The maximum size I can have for each panel is 23 inches. What is the true width (from the edge of one bracket to the edge of the other bracket)? Is it actually 23 inches? Or is the shade 23 inches, and the brackets are an additional 0.5 inch (or 1.0 inch) on each side?

Transparency of the blinds?: I would like to know if these blinds are transparent? For example, from the outside, will people be able to see inside my house? I want a blind that is non-transparent, so people from the outside/on the street cannot see anything (even shadows) inside the window when the shades are down.

        • Q:

choice of width for roman shades: The width of my windows is not among the width selections available.
One of my windows is 38" in width and the closest available is 36, 39 or 43 .
The other is 29.5 " in width and what's available is 29" or 31.
This is for an inside mounting.
Would I be better off going with a smaller width? Or are none of these choices suitable for my window measurements?

          thank you

            A:

            Hello NADDAN,

The Whole Home®/MD Striped Roman Shades would not be suitable for your window measurements.
To find exact fitting shades, you need to select items with a CX after the item number as these can be cut to your specifications.

            Thank you for choosing Sears.

mounting on wall: i have to order this blind in 33in which is wider than my window and moulding. i will have to mount it on the wall. the moulding is 1/2in thick. will i still be able to pull the blind down over the moulding? how far does the blind extend from the wall? I have never bought a roman blind before. Will I need an additional valance at the top? I know it comes with a valance but where its an outside mount will hardware be seen from the side?

          • A:

The blind will go over the moulding with no problem. The mounting strip is 1 1/2" deep /wide, so extends that much from the wall. The valance is attached to this strip, and the white metal does show from the sides. I didn't even notice it and had to go and look. Note that when the blinds are pushed up all the way, there is 14 inches of fabric hanging down. Keep this in mind if you're mounting these on a low window, as they will block the view if you're tall!

          • A:

            Hello caper2010,

When installing outside mount which is not on the moulding, you would need to raise the bracket to be level to the moulding (therefore you would need to add a piece of wood etc. that would be 1/2" thick to be level with the moulding). Otherwise, the shade will not be able to slide into the bracket. However, you should be able to install the brackets on the moulding even if the shade is wider than the window and moulding, then the shade can overhang the moulding. This would be the recommended way to install the roman shade when installing it as an outside mount. The depth of the bracket is 0.5" away from your wall or moulding when install an outside mount. The Stripe Pattern Light Filtering Shade does not come with a valance. Adding an additional valance would be your personal preference. When installed with an outside mount you would see the sides of the blind. Depending on how close you install the bracket to the end of the blind will determine how much of the bracket will show.

            Thank you for choosing Sears.

            Hello,

The cord mechanism that pulls the shade up or down is hidden within the shade. To raise or lower this shade you simply pull or push the bottom of it.

          • A:

14 month old question: Yes, the shade is raised or lowered by pushing or pulling a clear plastic handle. The cords are inaccessible because they're encased between the blind and the lining. BTW, a couple of blinds started going up crookedly but this was easily fixed. The cords go through split rings and sometimes they work through the split and then don't slide properly. Just push the cord back to where it should be.
SEARS TAKE NOTE: these rings should be continuous, not split!
