Since our beginning in 1953, Sears Canada has always believed in giving back to the communities we serve. At Sears, our commitment is focused on helping young Canadians reach their full potential. The Sears Canada Charitable Foundation is a registered Canadian charity established to help collect and distribute donations to charitable organizations that align with its mission to support the healthy development of children and youth in Canada. Sears In Your Community events and initiatives help support the Foundation and its mission at both the national and local levels.
Sears In Your Community events and initiatives fall under the umbrellas of two succinct and worthy charitable causes: Children's Health, with a focus on Children's Cancer and Youth Development.
Our associates and customers play a key role in helping these causes in our communities by participating in fundraising campaigns such as "Round Up Your Bill" (where customers round off their purchases to the nearest dollar), the sales of seasonal charity plush toys, the 'Sears Tree of Wishes' program (where local charities deliver toys purchased by customers and associates to less fortunate children in their community) and other in-store initiatives. Our customers can also generously donate their Sears Points to either the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, in our matching program, which has raised more than $250,000 since 2000, or to Sears In Your Community Children's Cancer Charities. Last year, these combined fundraising efforts helped us raise an additional amount of $1,000,000 over our corporate commitment, which we directed to support the dual causes of children's cancer and local after-school programming.
Sears Canada has a proud long-standing corporate tradition of sponsoring and contributing to both national and regional youth-related programs that support our community investment mandates. Sears also provides support to over 300 local community partner organizations from coast-to-coast, which are each partnered with their local Sears retail store.
Sears Canada limits its charitable partnerships to registered Canadian organizations that support our national mandate of supporting
children's cancer charities and children's and youth after-school programming. Sears has selected its charitable partners for this year and is
not seeking new applications for charitable partnerships.
While we know there are many deserving organizations, we are unable to honour all of the requests we receive each year. By maintaining our
focus on the few organizations with which we have a history,
we are able to make our contributions more meaningful.
Thank you for your interest in Sears Canada's community investment.
