The Amana Story

Amana was founded in 1934, in Amana, Iowa, when a young entrepreneur named George Foerstner accepted a challenge from a local businessman to build a reliable beverage cooler. Foerstner drew from the community's supply of highly skilled craftsmen and expert cabinetmakers, and their meticulous and time-consuming workmanship on each unit became the hallmark of the Amana brand.
Foerstner expanded the business into refrigeration and later, room air conditioners. And in 1967, the company revolutionized the way people cook with the introduction of the Amana Radarange microwave ovens, the first countertop microwave oven for the home.
Today, the company that Foerstner founded is a recognized leader in the appliance industry, offering a complete line of major appliances and home comfort products, including refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, wall ovens, ranges, cooktops, Radarange microwave ovens, washers and dryers, room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and central heating and air conditioning equipment. Amana's Commercial Cooking division is the world's largest supplier of commercial and industrial microwave ovens.
Amana's headquarters have always been located in Amana, Iowa. Nestled in the picturesque valley of the Iowa River, they are located 21 miles south of Cedar Rapids and 20 miles west of Iowa City.
