The Design Exchange
The Design Exchange (DX) is Canada's design centre with a mission to promote the value of Canadian design, which we achieve by presenting programs such as exhibitions, lectures, workshops, education programs and research. The DX is an internationally recognized non-profit educational organization committed to promoting greater awareness of design as well as the indispensable role it plays in fostering economic growth and cultural vitality. The DX builds bridges by improving communication between various design disciplines, educators, businesses and the general public. The vision is Canada, by design.
Sears backs the Design Exchange's educational mission with their strong support of the annual Sears Canadian High School Design Competition. This national competition brings design into high school classrooms and challenges students to re-examine their worlds, and through a clear process of design, endeavor to make them better. This exercise helps to deliver the message that design touches everything.
With Sears backing this important program, the Design Exchange is committed to reaching out to students and teachers in every part of Canada. Cash prizes are awarded to winners in the five competition categories and entries are exhibited at the DX each spring. The winner of the logo portion has their design used in all of the following year's promotional materials. This is an impressive achievement for a student applying to post-secondary education in design.
