Sears Children's Cancer Charities initiatives are committed to helping children living with cancer and their families across Canada. Sears is working with Children's oncology centres and organizations such as The Hospital for Sick Children, Operation Enfant Soleil, BC Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, IWK Health Centre and Stollery Children's Hospital to raise funds and awareness for research and treatment initiatives which will fund programs that improve the lives of children living with cancer, as well as those recovering from the physical and emotional scars that can be part of survivorship. Donations to Sears Children's Cancer Charities are administered and distributed through The Sears Canada Charitable Foundation.

Childhood cancer is an often overlooked fact of life for thousands of Canadian Children. Did you know?...

  • In 2010, Sears Canada Charitable Foundation made a multi-year, $5 million commitment to fight childhood cancer. Half is directed to the completion of Sears Cancer Clinic - a state-of-the-art cancer clinic in Toronto that sees 25 per cent of all new cases of pediatric cancer in Canada and 60 per cent of all cases in Ontario. The remainder is being directed to The Sears Childhood Cancer Fellowship, which will support regional programming and research at pediatric oncology centres across Canada.

  • SickKids provides a full range of treatments for children requiring the most complex cancer treatments: chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and palliative care. Also, it is the only Children's hospital in Ontario that provides bone marrow transplantation.

  • Children and families across British Columbia continue to benefit from the generosity of Sears Canada. Sears contributions to childhood cancer care and research at BC Children's Hospital are helping to make cancer treatments safer, minimizing the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, and supporting families through programs that provide the absolute best care for children.

Opération Enfant Soleil is a non-profit organization founded in the city of Québec in 1988 by the Laval University Hospital Centre. From the very first year, the telethon was so successful that the Sainte Justine Hospital Centre and the Montreal Children's Hospital joined Opération Enfant Soleil the following year.

Its mission is clear: to raise funds for the development of quality pediatric care and for contributing to programmes that provide social support and intervention for all children in Quebec. Every year, Opération Enfant Soleil meets the needs of regional hospitals and organizations by providing approximately 130 grants throughout Quebec. Thanks to the funds that are raised, hundreds of projects are undertaken each year in the major pediatric centres that can acquire the latest technologies and provide welcoming spaces for the children, as well as in the regions where the children can be treated without being away from their families.

Opération Enfant Soleil provides assistance and support to the large hospitals that treat children with very specialized needs: the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre, the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Quebec University Centre mère-enfant in the city of Québec and the Sherbrooke University Hospital Centre.

Since its creation and thanks to the generous contributions of the general population and its partners, Opération Enfant Soleil has provided more than $180 million to major pediatric centres, regional hospital centres and charitable organizations throughout Quebec.

Opération Enfant Soleil and Sears: For the Love of Children !

Every year, the associates of the Sears stores throughout Quebec support Opération Enfant Soleil by working very hard to collect the necessary funds to help sick children. Sales of tickets for the grand prize of the annual Maison Enfant Soleil (furnished by Sears), sales of stuffed animals or candy, organization of a variety of events are just some examples of activities initiated by the Sears team specifically aimed at raising money to help sick children in Quebec. Sears also proudly supports the annual Opération Enfant Soleil Golf Classic fundraising event.

Since 2000, Sears has collected more than $11 million for the cause, thanks to the generosity of its customers, partners, associates and volunteers.
